The Chinese Progress is one of the most famous political comment newspaper. Personnel formation there is complicated, the staff have innumerable relationship with high-ranking official Zhi Dong Zhang and political reform leader Youwei Kang. At first, The Chinese Progress was famous because of propagating Constitutional Reform and Modernization; but after Qichao Liang's leaving, the newspaper's viewpoints of public become conservative; Ultimately, the newspaper ended in changing to a government official one. How did it become the Constitutional Reform and Modernization's "current affairs is reported " propagate position at the beginning, How did it build and destroy the public opinion, what kind of connections did it have with the inside fights of the newspaper staff and the inner relationship between the fights of politics power and the public opinion changes. I'll resolve these problems in three chapters.Chapter One mainly discusses the found of The Chinese Progress and the benefit dispute of political powers. First, introduce the development of Constitutional Reform and the thoughts of Modernization and the found of The Chinese Progress. Then analyzing the Social, political and cultural backgrounds and the details of the set up of the newspaper. Second, analyzing the three most important inside factions and he relations among them, one is the foreign affairs' party whose representative was Kang Nian Wang, and Zhi Dong Zhang was the boss; another is the reformers' party whose representive was Qi Chao Liang, the other is the advanced gentry as Zun Xian Huang. The main point of this chapter is to find out the relationship among The Chinese Progress and the political parties.Chapter Two focus on the political comment of The Chinese Progress. First, analyzing the public opinion before the found of The Chinese Progress, and having a brief look of the basis of construction of public opinion. Seconf, combing all the political comments of The Chinese Progress and classing them by content to find out how the newspaper built the public opinion. Third, discussing the respective influence of Zhi Dong Zhang,Kang Nian Wang and Zun Xian Huang to The Chinese Progress and study the role of these political character during the construction of the paper's public opinion.Chapters Three focus on how The Chinese Progress changed to a government newspaper, first, discuss the details through the analysis to historical materials. Second, trying to find out why the government wants to change the newspaper into an official one, analyzing the political powers' influence to the newspaper staff. Third, discuss the deconstruction of the paper's public opinion through analyzing the Kang-Liang -dilation.At the end part, compare The Chinese Progress and other progressive newspaper, discusses the significance and peculiarity in the fields of content, issuing, affecting and so on.In short, The Chinese Progress is one of the most representative newspapers in Modem Times of China; it has important significance to newspaper and periodical history in the Modem Times of China to do some deep research on it.
