Manufacturing Execution System is a kind of product management technology andreal-time information system of the workshop layer lying between the planning system of theupper layer and industrial control of the ground floor. The targets of MES are to produce highquality and low-cost outputs according to the plan of the planning system of the upper layer.During the process, all kinds of product resources & methods of workroom and plenty ofreal-time information must be used as best as possible. MES integrated software and hardwarecomponents of the workroom, which managed and optimized all process from ordering tofinishing the produce. It employed and controlled real-time, exact information to direct, teach,affect, report all kinds of activities happened in the workroom. It the same time, MES providethe tasks' evaluating information about product activities. The tasks of MES include resourcedistribution, process management, quality control, product distribution management, datagathering, capability analyses, and materiel management and so on. Thus, It can be seen thatMES is a fundamental measure to realize information integration of workroom andatomization & celerity of producing management.This paper illustrated the basic theories, functions and technology model of MES. Basedon the function model, combining with the realities of Urumchi, we designed the "ProductionDispatch Management Information System in Vehicle Maintenance Center". The systemselected Oracle 9i as background processing database. Clients were developed with manyadvanced computer language, but the styles of interfaces are coincident and the whole systemhas only one portal. According to the requirement analysis of Urumchi Vehicle MaintenanceCenter, the general structure of software and hardware was designed.During the process of the project, in order to cope with the facts that the new and olddatabases were incompatible and systems ware developed with multi-language, thetechnologies of data's share and software's connect & conformity were researched. In order toovercome the handicaps that the developing period is short and the task is heavy, the softwareengineering methods that Waterfall Model and Prototyping were combined. In order to dealwith the problems that the system of client/server model are inconvenient to update, animproved universal auto-upgrade model of client was improved and realized successfully inthe same field for the first time, so that administrator was released from heavy work. In orderto solve the problems that system must run continuously every day, Bithermal Backup Systemand Database Backup & Restore Strategy were researched, and these technologies wereapplied successfully in the system.The feasibility and reasonability of selecting MES function model as software structureis verified by the system's long-time stable running, furthermore, this structure succeeded inproviding convenience for further extension of the system.
