| In recent years, with the rapid developing of the economy, people have an increasing demand for communications. Undoubtedly, convergence has become an inevitable trend in the next generation network. Therefore, as an International Authoritative Organization for studying 3G network Standardization, 3GPP proposed IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) in Release 5. Based on 3GPP's network architecture, IMS can fulfill the access requirement of fixed network and the service requirement of future network, which plays a vital role in the Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) at core service control layer and supports multiple service of high layer, so IMS represents the development direction of future Next Generation Network.The concept of user profile database in telecommunication network is introduced from GSM network. The centralized storage of user profile database in the HLR greatly enhanced the ability to provide the business. This shows the important role of the user profile database in the network. Therefore, IMS also introduced HSS, which plays the role of user profile database in the future 3GPP network.This paper has made an in-depth study of HSS. It describes the functional requirements and the workflows of HSS. Meanwhile, it also puts forward a complete realization of the HSS in accordance with the requirements of 3GPP, which will also provide the necessary technical accumulation for enterprises researching IMS. |
