Recently, with the rapid development of Internet, it is urgent to apply new Internet Protocol-IPv6 to solve the problem of current network. The application of IPv6 has drawn much attention of the researchers all over the world. At the present time, these researchers mostly focus on two aspects: 1.To integrate IPv6 with intelligent optical communication. 2. To improve the performance of mobility support in IPv6. As the current Mobile IPv6 has limitation on latency and lost packets to face the requirements of real time applications, such as VoIP and IPTV.This article focuses on the application of IPv6 in optical and mobile network, embarks from the introduction of the sociality of IPv6, then studies the several mobility handover schemes and provides some optimized schemes and their simulations with OMNet++. In order to study more about Mobile IPv6, a Mobile IPv6 test bed based on Linux system and MIPL is introduced. This paper mainly includes the following information:1. The potential application of IPv6 technology in next generation network (NGN), and introduce the objective and content of this paper.2. The development, characteristic, research status and key technology of IPv6.3. The application of IPv6 in optical network and the concept of Optical Internet.4. The concept and advantage of Mobile IPv6. 5. The introductions of several handover schemes of Mobile IPv6 and the analysis of latency in handover process, as well as the optimized schemes.6. The implementation and study on Mobile IPv6 system based on Linux system and MIPL 2.02.7. The simulations and analysis of several handover schemes including optimized ones with OMNet++ and IPv6SuiteWithINET modules.
