In recent days, learners of telecommunication field have turned to focus on a new term: FMC, Fixed-Mobile Convergence. With FMC, user could enjoy the same services in different networks. In a long time, most services of Internet access, such as ADSL services, are offered by fixed operators. Although similar service provided by mobile operator is flexible, it fails to be widespread because of the limitation of its access speed. The dawning of 3G age provides idealized solutions for wireless Internet access. The speed of 3G fully meets the needs of normal user. So, 3G-WiFi router is absolutely the trend in 3G age.According to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), only three 3G standards are accepted, i.e. WCDMA, CDMA2000 and TD-SCDMA. CDMA2000 1×EV-DO is the enhanced CDMA2000 1X.This paper aims at describing the design and practice of an EVDO-WiFi wireless router. This paper begins with the introduction of the requirement and technical background, proving that WLAN and 3G technology, and the conception of FMC make 3G-WiFi router a trend in 3G age. And then it introduces the system structure of SOHO Router and the system analysis and design of our solution. Then, it talks about the software and hardware platform, proving the necessity of using Linux OS and ARM processor. Then the paper illustrates the developing process of an EVDO-WiFi wireless router, including the software, hardware and structure developing. At the same time, it describes the problem which the author meets during the project process and how the author solved them by knowledge of software engineering. The end of paper is the conclusion and the expectation of whole system performance.
