Research And Application Of Streaming Media Set-top Boxes Based On Embedded Linux

A stream media set-top box based on embedded linux is studied and realized in this paper. This stream media set-top box will bring many ordinary family especially children or the elderly those not get used to operating PC to a lot of enjoyment of network, digital media, computer technology through television. This paper main analyze the stream media set-top box based on embedded Linux and its relevant applications.The corresponding background is introduced at first and the main characteristic function and the whole configuration are explained.After showed the main functions and characters of the stream media set-top box based on embedded linux, brings out the detailed designing principles,at the base of these, it presents then the hardware and software design projects of the whole system. Then, the dissertation describes in detail how to realize the stream media step-top box, my research experience mainly include to customize firefox web browser, deploy the exported of s-video and composite video at the same time, realize wireless mouse remote controller, customize embedded linux operating system, realize Linux non-disk stream media set-top box and BIOS FullLogo, etc. Two relevant applications are applied based on the stream media set-top box based on embedded linux ---the hotel application system and the information-based community service system. The former consists of some subsystems such as the hotel introduction, inquiry about expenses, video service, music on demand, travel information, traffic guide, shopping provide and deliver, and ordering meal on the network, etc. The latter consists of some subsystem such as video service, music on demand, interactive education, Chengdu government affairs, shopping provide and deliver, medical treatment and health care, travel information, traffic guide, ordering meal on the network and paying etc. Each subsystem is composed of two modules: application system faced to the user and data management system faced to the administrator. The dissertation only selected three subsystems ---music on demand, video service, shopping provide and deliver, to introduce their design methods in detail. Finally, we have tested the function and performance of the stream media set-top box based on embedded linux. The results show that set-top box runs steadily, the function and the performance of system touch the expected object.
