Ever since 1990s, an outstanding commercial culture phenomenon-the booming of woman fashion magazine-have arisen and in a considerable degree have influnenced the consuming and living styles of urban women.Among the woman fashion magazines The Ray is taken as a case of study for its successful commercial operation, its close pace with the development of China's market economy and its international capital background.In a micro-perspective, the booming of woman fashion magazines is closely ralated to the initial establishment of globalization, the mass media and the consuming society in China. Through reading the fashion magazines, women readers are actually having their fashion taste satisfied and their identity recognized, and are therefore actualizing the act consumption.In a macro-perspective, the booming of woman fashion magazines is the wery result of the co-functioning of the media and the audience. The present overspreading of consumerism is also the result of the operation model of commercial media, including the fashion magazines.It is undeniable that this consumerism concept for the construction of a market economy and development is helpful, but it should be noted that they have neglected their role as a social public organ. The media are increasingly losing the capability of self-examining and are just catering to the society's services whatsoever. As a result, the audience is easy to be misled and is gradually losing its criticizing role, only accepting the information to its own advantage and confined to its limited world of wealth and consumption pursuit and thus ignoring the harsh and serious reality around.Ofcourse, while the present multi-dimensional society must treat fairly and tolerably the values and living styles that will not produce any serious consequences, to promote social justice and fairess and to maintain a humanistic attitude are a fundamental request for the media. The media should keep its self-examining capability and lead the community cultural consumption trend of the mission on it's own initiative, do not be restricted by a passive subject or something anti-culture, thus creating a favorable civilized public discourse platform to create a sound social and public space, and make due contributions in construct the consumption society to be more healthy and harmonious.
