Wireless sensor networks (WSN) are self-organized networks with a great deal of small random distributed sensors, which are composed of sensor, data processing unit and communication module. For the past few years, WSN has accessed rapid development, and has important value of research and use in many fields, just like military affairs, industry, agriculture, environment, medical treatment and so on. However, self-localization of WSN has been the basis of most of uses in WSN, node localization has been an important and critical research direction in the study of WSN.The research of this paper is based on the analysis of a great deal of recent technical reports and research results on WSN. Its main work includes:1. The research background, practical utility and present investigatory headway of WSN at home and abroad are introduced.2. Some related techniques of WSN and the concept and basic principles of node localization in WSN are also introduced.3. The research status and some main performance evaluating criterions of self-localization in WSN are analyzed, and current localization algorithms and localization systems are classified into many categories according to different standards. Then, some issues which need to be resolved in future are discussed.4. Based on the shortage of ROCRSSI algorithm, FTPL algorithm and DMEL algorithm are proposed in order to decrease hardware cost and the effect of radio anisotropy. Then, combined with weighted centroid localization algorithm based on RSSI for WSN, the theoretical analysis and emulation of these algorithms are implemented.5. Summary and the direction of research are made.
