As the development of the science technology ,effect of the battlefield visualization on the information war becomes more and more important . Protracting and demonstrating of 3D battlefield situation ,the important part of the battlefield visualization system, provide superintending and decision-making with visual, intuitionistic and abundant information of the battlefield. Meantime the command framework can modulate the campaign plan. The study on the 3D situation Protracting is very significant.Based on the actuality of the domestic and overseas research ,as well as the subsistent research result , this thesis made a analysis about the characteristic of the unit symbols ,which are compartmentalized in reason into static unit symbols and dynamic ones,.Then we made a study on the 3D representation form of them .In this thesis, a method of real-time creating and protracting of 3d static unit symbols was advanced that combines real model and billboard technique. Based on an image processing algorithm ,which is named as bevel and embossment arithmetic, the 2D unit symbol image was processed in order to create the one with 3D characteristic, according to two instance of point light source and parallelism light. Then use the billboard technique to protract the 3D static unit symbols in the 3D scene.On the basis of the analysis of the 2D dynamic unit symbols, we proposed a triangulation algorithm based on meshwork structure of alterable step range averaging to create the 3D dynamic unit symbols. Then create the 3D dynamic unit symbol substantiality according to adding height to the bottom plane of the unit symbol figure.Then the description of the method of the edition of the 3D dynamic unit symbol was presented. Moreover based on an existent algorithm, we solved the problem of the matching between the unit symbol substantiality and terrain.At last ,on the base of the 3D unit symbols protracting ,we studied the structure of the battlefield situation demonstrating system and presented a space combat situation demonstrating system structure framework face to space combat. Furthermore we studied primary pivotal technology and its realization approach, and formed feasible system project.The results of experiment suggest that actualizing algorithms are efficient and banausic, and they satisfy the requirement of practical battlefield visualization system better.
