Now the world, rapid changes are taking place to war's appearance. At the call of the new revolution in military affairs, the operational training theory and the practice break the existing mode unceasingly. Especially in recent years, the computer virtual reality technology's rapid development, has provided the unprecedented platform for the operational training.Military theory's change, is profoundly changing the form of the battlefield without doubt. A concrete manifestation of the form of the battlefield is the battlefield situation between the two sides. To control the battlefield situation, is the most important affair for all the military commanders. The battlefield situation contains the unification coordinate natural environmental (terrain, meteorology, sea etc.) information, the humanities environmental information which close related with environment, military target and military action's (allied force, enemy troop, neutral army, facility) position, progress, condition and distributed information. Puts briefly, the battlefield situation information's content can be divided into two major parts: the environmental information and the military situation information. Usually, the battlefield situation refers to the interaction of all these information.Presently, the computer graphics, the multimedia technologies as well as the visualization technology's rapid development, has changed the traditional way of data processing, widened people's field of vision enormously, and provided the new method to eradicate the"battlefield dense fog". To present the simulated data in real-time, figures and diagrams way, the people may be clear to the thing's evolutive process, thus obtain the direct-viewing and explicit perceptual knowledge. This has also provided the formidable supplementary means, which will help the military commanders to thoroughly understand the battlefield situation.The so-called battlefield situation visualization is the method, which sets up the model of the military operations firstly, then simulates war situation, stratagem and tactics using computer simulation technology. The battlefield situation visualization deduces from the military exercise on the map and the sand. It mainly has experienced the transformation, from simulation to digital, from plane to three-dimensional, from static to dynamic. In reality, the battlefield situation visualization has a great guide for military operations. Using virtual reality technology, it has provided a more scientific method for the study of war, enabled the simulation resistance even more to approach in the actual combat, enhanced the commander's ability to command and control operations greatly.This topic is the applied technology research refers to the computer graphics knowledge and the military plotting skill. The research object is 3D military symbol's generation and plotting in the battlefield situation visualization. The goal is to develop the practical and efficient system of of battlefield situation plotting. The research of 3D military symbol, depends on the research of battlefield situation visualization. It is an important research subject of battlefield situation visualization. During the computer battlefield situation visualization, the usual method is to express the military target and the military action position, the progress, the condition and the distribution information as abstraction graphics symbol. This is called military symbol. According to military operations, with the aim of obtaining the battlefield situation-map, commanders put military symbol at the carrier of terrain information. This kind of activity is called battlefield situation plotting. The information of military target and military operations is the main body of battlefield, the military symbol which abstracts by the main body becomes the main body of battlefield situation visualization system naturally. The design and implementation of military symbol also becomes the focus of visualization research.With the in-depth research of three-dimensional military symbol, especially refers to the great importance which 3D non-regular military symbol has been given by military plotting, dynamic and interactive research in this area has become the main direction. The 3D military symbol's research is unable to be separated from the entire situation visualization research. For example, the terrain matching of military symbol, already became the central content of the design of the 3D non-regular military symbol. And the dynamic operation of 3D non-regular military symbol, must manifest in the design of situation plotting system. The design and implementation of the terrain model, the 3D military symbol and the situation plotting system interweave in the same place.With the changing pattern of operations and the rapid development of computer virtual reality technology, the battlefield situation visualization request 3D military symbol model which designed to be more practical and highly effective, to adapt the newest progress of the 3D real-time plotting and the dynamic revision in the battlefield situation plotting.In this work, the author has made the detailed analysis to the military demand and the technical difficulty, has profited from the related specialized research experience and the achievement. Based on the full research of 3D non-regular military symbol composition characteristic, the feasible plan of design and implementation of this kind of military symbol has been gaven. It has basically served the anticipated research purpose. And the major problems which have been solved are as follows:(1) After analyzed the non-regular military symbol unique feature and the plotting process, it has been proposed that there is a unification expression pattern of 3D non-regular military symbol, which based on B-Spline. And a solution, which based on B-Spline, takes generating the path of non-regular military symbol as the core, has been given.(2) Several kind of representative 3D non-regular military symbol model, which based on B-Spline, has been designed.(3) A method based on B-Spline, which matchs the 3D military symbol to terrain, has been realized.(4) A two-and-three-dimensional linkage battlefield situation plotting system, has been designed to realized the 3D non-regular military symbol real-time plotting, the dynamic revision and 3D situation scene roaming.(5) The 3D terrain environment which matched with the 3D non-regular military symbol has been designed and realized.The unification expression pattern of 3D non-regular military symbol based on B-Spline and the solution based on B-Spline, which this article has proposed, may provide the beneficial reference for the 3D military symbol model system's standardized work. The 3D non-regular military symbol which realizes based on this kind of expression pattern has the good posture adjustment and automatic terrain matching ability, can well meet the flexible need of the military plotting. The two-and-three-dimensional linkage battlefield situation plotting system, has initially manifested the characteristics of three dimensional, real-time and dynamic. It is an attempt that closely follows the current battlefield situation plotting trend of development.
