Adjusted to the development of Information Technology, the ECDIS is gradually replacing the paper chart as a kind of important navigation assistant means. It is worth studying the visualization of tide which is necessary in ECDIS. In order to perfect the assistant voyage performance, the paper analyses and researches the various methods of the visualization of tide with the help of tidal calculation and the basic theory of Scientific Visualization. The paper firstly introduces the theory of tidal calculation and Scientific Visualization with the overview of the seas adjacent to China and presents tide DEM, which expands the tidal visualization in the space continuum, on the basis of the charactics and application of tide and the generalized definition of DEM. From the basic reference model of Scientific Visualization, it gets the reference model of the tidal visualization that outlines the tidal visualization clearly.According to the principles that enhance the degree of human-computer interaction and provide aiding navigation decision-making with flexible scheme of visualization, it gives out the framework of the design of tidal visualization for practical application/Considering that both of tide and tidal current happen and should be inquired about at the same time, the tidal visualization depended on the function is devided into four parts: visualization of single point tide and tidal current, visualization of region tide and tidal current. Each kind of visualization is detailed on the integration of ECDIS.In the end, laying weight on the realization of visualization of region tide and tidal current, it gives out dynamic visualization of region tide with COM (Component Object Model) and elementary static visualization of region tide with OpenGL, and then it compares and analyzes the two realizations on the static region visualization. The dynamic visualization of region tidal current was also given. After summarizing the work done in the paper, it points out the future implementation in details.
