The background of this MSc dissertation is development of a concurrent test system called MPR-CTS (Multi-Port Router Concurrent Test System) at SC-Netcom Lab (Sichuan Network Communication Key Laboratory). The MPR-CTS is based on an improved ISO TTM (Transverse Test Method), called MPC-TTM (Multi-Port Concurrent Transverse Test Method) defined for multi-port concurrent testing. The MPR-CTS under development consists of two-level devices interconnected: the MPC-TM (Multi-Port Concurrent Test Manager) at the top level and multiple TPTs (Two-Port Testers) at the bottom level. This thesis focuses on management issues of a TPT and on design and implementation of the TPT Test Manager (TPT-TM). TPT-TM is the test controller and manager of a TPT, which can manage two-port test case execution either under an operator's test commands or under control of the MPC-TM. To meet the test requirements, the author has divided the TPT-TM into 4 interrelated modules, i.e.a) The User Interface Module (UIM) to accept and interpret the user-commands such as test configuration, test case selection, display and logging selection, and test process control when a TPT acts as an independent tester for two-port testing. It also has a sub-module called Display Module (DM), which displays test progress information dynamically for operators according to display mode selection (test conclusion only mode or detailed display mode).b) The Test Scheduler & Manager Module (TCM) to select individual test case for TPT according to pre-defined sequence or dynamically test case selection algorithms and to call up relevant executable test case produced by test case generation support tools (TTCN-3/C compiler, C compiler, and executable test case generator).c) Logging Module (LM) to log test progress information according to logging mode selection (N-PDU of the test layer only, or N-PDU plus (N-1)-PDU for post analysis).d) TPT & MPC-TM Interface Module (T&M-IM), through which the TPT-TM could accept commands from the MPC-TM and give it the feedbacks when acting in the whole system as a slave tester. This module examines the coordination between TPT & MPC-TM and supports the Multi-Port Concurrent Testing Coordination & Management Protocol (MPCT-CMP), while the experiment results show that the design is operable. The main significance of the work presented in this dissertation is that it provides a prototype TPT-TM for system for future debugging and integration both for TPT and MPR-CTS.
