The female fashion magazines of our country broke ground in the 1980s while the western female fashion magazines have undergone successively a hundred-year development. Although fashion magazines in our country came into being very late, their fast fierce developmental trend conquered the magazine market very quickly, so that these kinds of fashion magazines became indispensable parts of the periodical family. The booming development of the female fashion magazines in our country showed their enormous developmental potentials, at the same time, these fashion magazines were criticized by the academic cycles because of their excessively publicizing consumerism.The Shishang published in 1993 is a successful model of the female fashion magazine. Her developmental mode to success, the idea of communication, and the operation mode are of important references to the fashion industry. The Shishang's spreading fashion culture is a process in which it communicates the fashion message. This thesis, therefore, will analyze Shishang's all aspects which include medium, message, audience and communication effect from the perspective of the communication science. This thesis further examines the consumerism tendency embodied in female fashion magazines.This thesis includes three parts. The first part examines the background of the Shishang's birth and developmental history. The second part analyzes its characteristics regarding medium types, message processing, audience, communication effect and so on. Based on the above analysis, this thesis draws a conclusion that The Shishang grows with the consumerism as social background and the consumerism tendency embodied in Shishang objectively exists. However, it is not enough to only criticize the consumerism tendency of female fashion magazines. These kinds of magazines manifest itself with inevitability and rationality. The third part analyzes the social meaning of the Shishang and its developmental outlook.
