Video surveillance is a kind of important tools in highway monitoring nowadays. However, the data processed and collected by video monitors are huge, which limits the applications of video surveillance. The only way to solve this problem is compression.In the late 1990', with the development of multimedia technology, video compression and coding technology and network communication technology, video surveillance technology has been in a rapidly developing period. Influenced by potential market profit of HDTV and DTV, many technological standard and algorithm are being or have been set up, ASICs and equipments for video processing, recording, and displaying have been researched and put in to use. All these factors push the technology of video surveillance forward.According to current technologies, this paper raises a design methord about a MPEG-4 video surveillance card based on PCI bus. After study common video surveillance characters and Windows dirver model, we give a kind of hareware design method based on video compression chip GO7007SB and Multimedia PCI bridge SAA7146 used in this video surveillance card, and finishe driver programming. The configuration of SAA7146 and GO7007SB, reaction to inturrpution and timing between the two chips were processed. The driver for the card can be loaded in Windows 2000 properly, and is able to reset system, download firmware and initialization package.After testing hardware and software, hareware system is able to run, WDM driver can satisfy the design request.
