The Study And Implement Of Web-based Applications Testing Technology And Gray-Box Testing

The rapid diffusion of Internet and open standard technologies is producing a significant growth of the websites and web applications because of the universality, interoperability, speediness, and convenience, which has penetrated every field of the society. Promoted by the marketing requirements, the scale of the web applications keeps on extending, and its complexity increasing. At present IT system has already been the most important approach being used to do business transactions. Increasing transactions bring heavy load to the system. So the performance of the system influence the quality of the service provided. A big emphasis has been laid on the testing and optimization of the performance of the web applications.Testing on the Web applications includes functional testing, performance testing, security testing, etc. Because of its immediate reflection of the quality of the service of the web application performance testing is crucial. Due to the dynamic nature of the web, the number of users and data transmission rate change continuously. Performance testing has rapidly become one of the top QA priorities.Outboard there are many achievements in the study of the performance testing, some modules, methods and strategies have been presented, accordingly testing tools developed. Mercury LoadRunner and IBM Rational both are powerful testing software. Inboard we are just on the beginning of this field, so we have a long way to go.In this paper we make the initial study of web performance testing, summarizing the content of performance testing in terms of three parts: application-end, server-end, middle network, proposing a three-layer test model though the hard study, giving some test methods and strategies, especially putting the gray-box testing method into practice of web performance testing. Combining with the powerful testing tool IBM? TestManager & Robot of Rational Suite? TestStudio?2003, the paper provides the concrete design and implements the project. The paper is part academic study and part case study.
