Along with the increasing complexity of engineering system, the possibility of plant fault is greater than before. How to guarantee the system security and reliability plays an important role and the condition monitor is an effective technology to safeguard large-scale unit efficiency and to prevent plant accident. In order to construct an intelligent, easy to expand, and reasonably priced key unit on-line monitoring project, a plant group on-line monitoring project is proposed in response to challenges from advanced manufacturing model. Considering the actual industry demands, a fan group monitoring network is designed and developed. The main achievements are as followed:(1) The development trend and the challenges of plant monitor are studied. A concept of plant group monitor is proposed, and its technology features are analyzed. In answering to the actual industry demands, the selected plant (water cooling tower fan) group monitoring project is designed, which ensures the distribution, intelligence and low-cost of fan status monitoring.(2) With the help of object-oriented technology and Unified Modeling Language (UML), we analyzed the demand of fan on-line monitoring network. By constructing object-oriented fan group monitoring model, analysis model and design model, we accomplished its software design and exploration, and its software coding on the platform of VS.NET + SQL2005. With according hardware lectotype and network topology plan, we applied fan group monitoring system to three units, and have got good feedback.(3) With the introduction of visual reality and dynamic webpage technology to the announcement and management of fan maintenance information, we developed a fan maintenance information management sub-system oriented to fan prediction maintenance based on combination of VRML and Java, which realized the inner-business information sharing of fan maintenance, but supported interactive browsing of fan structure information.
