In the image coding field, the design of high performance image coder is always the goal that many relative researchers pursue. As for performance, low memory, low power and real time processing are hot points in research.As the development of harmonic analysis, wavelet theory has met wide application dependent on its engineering background, which is very suitable for the research of image coding. The embedded image coding algorithms have become the mainstream of image coding research in the world because of their low complexity, high compressing quality, precise rate control and easiness to realize ROI, etc. And the hardware implementation of real-time image compression and decompression device is the key step of the Application of the theories.This paper presents an effective and real-time system of image compression combining with a bit plane-parallel architecture for a modified SPHIT algorithm which use depth first search bit stream processing. In this architecture. The processed bit stream is packeted by RS encoder which leads to a high quality of anti-error and fault-tolerance. Compared with other architectures, this has advantages of high parallelism and anti-error ability. The quality of images can satisfy most application fields.
