Research On Performance Testing Method Of Layer 3 Switch

The network equipment testing can be mainly divided into function testing and performance testing. But from the present statistical data, most problems exiting in actual application are related with the performance, thus the performance testing is meaningful to network devices. In this paper we mainly study the performance testing methods of the layer 3 switch. Firstly, according to the RFC criterion's definition we make a list of the testing entry what this text aims at, including the throughput, Frame loss rate, latency and back-to-back frames. Then we design and realize the benchmarking methodology basing on the acknowledged methodology and through analyzing the influence on switch performance that acted by the shortage of the benchmarking methodology, we plan and realize the enhanced performance testing project. The shortage mainly includes the single testing topology, the fixed length of packet and interval of the packet; the alone address number and so on. Aiming at those shortages, and then we use the different result created by the two different testing methods to confirm the preview analysis result.
