Since network is developed towards wider bandwidth and higher efficiency, opticalnetwork equipment is more complex in structure and function as the importantequipment in a high-speed link, the characteristics of equipment physical layer and linklayer are also increased; in order to ensure the network communication quality, thetesting workload of equipment is gradually increased. At present, the manual testingmethod through an operation instrument is complex, the professional requirement ontester is relatively high, the testing item is single, and the executing efficiency is low.This thesis presents an automatic testing method with relatively strongcomprehensiveness directing at the characteristics of physical layer and link layer ofoptical network switch/router equipment, and this method is able to finish the automatictesting diagnosis of base layer characteristic on the tested equipment. This thesis refersto the network equipment testing specification, adopts python program, and combinesthe other software function module, thus the base layer characteristic testing methodbased on an automatic testing platform is realized. The main content of this thesisincludes:(1) Statement of an overall plan of testing platform. According to thecharacteristic testing demand analysis of physical layer and link layer of optical networkequipment, classify tested object into a physical layer and a link layer; realize theoverall plan of the testing platform from overall framework, software design mode touser interface design; perform expandability design on the whole platform; respectivelyintroduce universal interface expanding method based on GPIB and IVI-C respectivelyaccording to different interface equipment, and avoid the interface type limitation oftesting equipment.(2) Structure analysis and transmitting-receiving achievement of testing data.As the foundation of all the testing projects, introduce the transmitting-receivingachievement of testing data, combine the working principles of Ethernet testing cardand SDH testing card; realize the structure and transmitting-receiving strategy of datapacket through python and C language. (3) Characteristic testing method and achievement of equipment physical layerand link layer. Classify gigabit Ethernet and SDH network according to the difference oftransmission method and equipment; through software design, combine the testinginstrument and realize the characteristic automatic testing of physical layer, includinglight power and light sensitivity of optical network equipment; respectively designtesting method of the link layer characteristic of different network equipment andrealize it, wherein the link layer characteristic includes RFC2544performancecharacteristic, equipment flow control mechanism, link layer protocol, and so on.(4) Testing result and verification. Perform equipment model selectionaccording to demand, construct software and hardware environment of testing platform;finish the test of every characteristic of physical layer and link layer for the testedequipment, obtain the result, analyze and verify the result.Through verification of tested result, the testing method of the tested object in thisthesis is able to realize the automatic test and single test on multiple equipmentcharacteristics; the testing method is strong in comprehensiveness, convenient tooperate, good in expandability, and beneficial to secondary development.
