In recent years, mobile telecommunications has become one of the fastest growing fields. The majority of recent research has been looking towards the next generation in mobile telecommunications. One of these areas of research has been fading mitigation techniques, support from speech transmission to multimedia service. There is also high data transmission and strong fading channel functions. CDMA2000 is one of the most important technical standards in 3G. CDMA2000 has been founded on the standards of IS95 but modified and enhanced to include new and improved techniques. This paper concerns the history of the development in mobile telecommunications, the current standards which have been introduced into it, a comparison of the 3 main standards and principally introduces the CDMA2000 system; its distinctive qualities and properties and possibilities for its future development. The paper also introduces in detail the forward and reverce channel structures and spread spectrum techniques. The paper is mainly a review of the results of the simulations of the different CDMA2000 techniques. To begin with, the microchip design and conditions of the simulation are discussed. The following stimulations are also discussed; the CDMA2000 forward channel system, the OTD and DS techniques. The simulation results clearly show that within fading mitigation techniques, OTD techniques promise better results. The paper concludes with a discussion on the simulation results and conclusions of the research into MC (multi-carrier) techniques which show a higher performance under multi-path fading.
