The development of wireless communication and Windows CE based travelling-crane dispatch systems for inventory management in iron & steel works is completed. To compensate the adverse properties of radio channels such as quite high error rates and blind area, a communication protocol for various serial wireless devices statisfied the requirements for stringent timing constraints and reliability guarantees in industrial wireless networks is proposed. Since the terminal system is 24-hour use in rough industrial environment, the embedded real-time operating system, Windows CE.NET, is introduced, and the application software development and startup sequence of BIOS bootloader are studied. The wireless dispatch systems based on wireless communication and Windows CE.NET applied to Sha-steel's steel slab warehouse are designed and implemented to resolve questions of communication and data consistency among mobile travelling cranes and fixed main control computer, multiple cranes synchronized dispatch, system reliability, and so on.The wireless travelling crane dispatch systems, deployed in the harsh industrial fields of Sha-steel's steel slab & rolled sheet warehouses, are running reliably for several months. The systems, optimize travelling cranes dispacth flow, improve warehouse management efficiency and are fully recognized by customers and experts. Now, the serial industrial wireless communication protocol is applying for a Chinese Patent for Invention.
