The steel ingot tong crane is the main equipment for rolling bloom and billet forging in iron and steel companies and applied to hoist steel ingot above the soaking bits. Its effective and stable operation is one of the conditions vital to the quality and high yield of the steel rolling plant, thus it demands higher reliability and accuracy in its operation. The development of technology of the computer and intellectual control has offered a good application platform for high quality control of the steel ingot tong crane system.This thesis first analyzes the technical condition of the former steel ingot tong crane system, then studies intellectual control computing in solution to the instability of the start and brake of the big and cart springing from the differences of the speed and torque of the electric machine and the frequent steel joint pin fracture caused by the lags of electrical torque and frequently changed directions. Thus a comprehensive improvement solution is put forward, incorporating synchronous control of the electric machine of the big cart by referring to control mode in an adaptive neural network PID and flexible reversing of the main hook and the big and small cart by predictive control respectively. And an intellectual control system of the steel ingot tong crane is devised based on this scheme. The core part adopts direct current controller and fulfills the requirement of technological skill by self-programmed software package.Since this new intellectual control system was put into practice, it has been functions well with high efficiency in working, apparent energy-saving effect and low failure-rate and nearly without maintenance. This technique also applies to large traveling crane and port machinery, thus has good prospects of application with great social and economic benefits.
