High Level Router Multicast Traffic Management

The multicast technology can save the network bandwidth and reduce the network load effectively, it is one of the key technologies of IPTV service, but to develop the service smoothly relies on the effective business management, the monitoring and the safety controlling. This paper introduced the technology we need to implement multicast traffic management, and introduced one kind of multicast briefly: recycling mulitcast, introduced how the recycling multicast gave the guarantee of QoS, and gave the processing flow of recycling multicast. In the beginning of this paper, we introduced the basic knowledge of multicast, and then explained the duplication and transfer of multicast in the router. The third part explained the common technology of traffic management. First introduced the key point to implement the traffic management, then introduced the three aspects of traffic management, involves: Scheduling policy, traffic monitor and traffic shaping.Introduced five kind of queue scheduling mechanism, and compared the the good and bad points. Then show several kind of scheduling model, and explains one scheduling mechanism, and the way of multicast scheduling in this mechanism, explained why this mechanism can give QOS guarantee. Finally the paper gave a summary of the multicast, and the key technology to implement mulicast in different level routers.This paper first introduced the basic concept of multicast, first explained the application scene, and compared with the multicast and the unicast, we have a conclusion that in some special situation, multicast has many advantage.
