Since the 90'th, Internet has experienced an explosive growth. Rapid growth of Internet users as well as the appearance of varied multimedia applications has brought forth the rapid growth of Internet traffic that cause serious network problems. According to the existing problems in network, people have brought out different protocols and solved well these problems. But there are still many problems for us to study. We can't study and certify the different protocols because of the diversities and complexities of the network. It's more abstract and boring for the study of the beginning learners. So the main purpose of our subject is designing visual and controllable teaching software by using NS and make examples of the abstract protocols for students to learn.At first the papers introduce the main methods of network study, the domestic and abroad development status about the simulation of network protocols and existing problems. The papers introduce the priorities of the NS development tools and put forward the possibility of developing the new visual and controllable network teaching software comparing with their drawbacks. Then realize the typical protocols chosen from the wired and wireless protocols.The part of wired protocols mainly introduce the characters of unicast protocol and multicast protocol in Internet. We realize the visual and controllable functions about static and dynastic cases of unicast protocol. We not only design good users'interface for the multicast but also analyse the data of three different protocols such as DM, CtrMcast, BST pointing out their advantages and disadvantages.In the part of wireless protocol, we introduce the character of Ad-hoc and the important protocols such as DSR, AODV, and DSDV. Then we realize the visual teaching of DSDV. We point out the practical scope of three protocols by analyzing the mean delivering rate, the mean delay of end-to-end, mean-hop of them. At last we develop the DSDV protocol by adding the table of cluster.At last, we give a summarization of the study content of subject, and present the next work we will do.
