Robotics technology evolved dramatically, with the development of the computer technology, microelectronics technology and networking technology. In recent years, the embedded system is becoming more and more important in various areas of society, because of the wide spread of networking applications. Its strength has been demonstrated in many industry applications such as remote medical treatment and safety.In light of making robot more cost-effective, miniature, flexible, stable and intelligent, the remote control of mobile robot is implemented by the co-design methodology of software and hardware; the ARM9 embedded processor as the core of hardware platform and the embedded Linux operating system as the software platform.Firstly, this paper introduces the concept of embedded system. The characteristics and application of the ARM series embedded processor are also reviewed. Secondly, this paper introduces the structure of S3C2410A, its applications in detail and the choice of Flash,SDRAM,USB,network card and other type of specific device. With the consideration of the limited resource available in embedded system, the paper discusses how to build embedded mobile robot development platform. In light of the feature of embedded system and the function of remote control to the mobile robot, the paper presents the complete solution of remote control to the mobile robot based on ARM9 processor and Linux operation system.This paper emphasizes mobile robot device drivers in Linux operation system and communication between mobile robot with remote PC through internet.At last, the testing of result in this paper demonstrates the mobile robot based on ARM9 embedded microprocessor can move stably, and proof the feasibility and correctness of the remote control.
