In the field of VISC, volume rendering is an important research topic, which has great research value and future application. DVR doesn't constitute the median geometric cell, it generates 2D image on the screen from 3D volume data. DVR can give entire image of 3D volume data, including every detail, and it has good performance on Parallel Processing and high image quality. But because of the large computation, the processing efficiency and interactive can not be satisfied, and it is hard to utilize traditional graphic hardware to implement rendering, so it takes much during computation. According to current situation, I studied DVR technology based on Ray-casting algorithm and some speedup methods, and implement based on D3D SDK. However, as the large quality of calculation, though a ser of acceleration has been proposed, the result of application on PC does not reach the expectation. At the same time, the fast development of the graphics hardware makes the volume rendering get much extension. So I further studied application on texture mapping based hardware and implement the traditional ray-casting-based volume rendering algorithm on the programmable graphics processing unit, which improve the rendering speed and interactive.
