China is an agrarian society with 0.9 billion of the whole population living in the countryside. Problems about"Sannong"issues( i.e. the agriculture, farmers and countryside )have been the key task that the government has been sparing efforts to solve. In the past years, the government has set up a lot of policies favorable to agricultural production, farmers'life and the construction of the countryside, but how to guarantee all the policies implemented effectively has become a new challenge to our government. We think that China's media, being the mouthpiece of the government, have the responsibilities to help these policies carried out.It is a pity that our media did not play the duty-bound role effectively in the past decades. There are many factors for the inefficiency of the media's work, such as the political environments, traditional values, economic benefits, etc., which are analyzed in the dissertation. The dissertation, based on the quantitative and qualitative analyses, presents a clear picture of the work of three newspapers (national, provincial and local )in covering issues about the agriculture, farmers, and countryside in the past 25 years. With the findings from the studies, the author focuses on the discussion about reasons behind the inefficient work of the media in reporting"Sannong"issues, and puts forwards practical suggestions on how to improve the present situation.
