The Wireless Mesh Network (WMN) is a new type of wireless communication network. WMN is a special WLAN. It is in substance a kind of Ad hoc with low mobility. WMN is capable of self-organization and multi-hop routing, as well as its capability of mobile user management and tracing. It is a multi-hop broad bandwidth distributing wireless network with high capacity and high transmission rate. Now many people believe that WMN is a wireless version of Internet as a static wireless network with routers and nodes with wireless links. This paper is about the study and improvement of routing algorithm in Wireless Mesh Network. Firstly, the paper introduces the structures, features and application of Wireless Mesh Network. Secondly, the routing protocols of Wireless Mesh Network are introduced. Thirdly, a detailed analysis is made in DSR routing protocol. Lastly based on DSR routing protocol, a multiplex metric-fame with available bandwidth is present in view of the node selfishness and the drawback of min-hop routing selection method. With the metric, through the cross layer design on MAC and network layer, a routing protocol which employs the above metric is given in this paper. Simulation results show that, under static or mobile environment, FABMHR all outperform DSR in network congestion control, load balance, network life-span, the collision times and average end to end delay.
