As a new type of access network technology, wireless mesh network has increasingly attracted people's attention and become the focus of research community in recent years. Traditional research methods, such as theoretical analysis, simulation, emulation and virtualization, etc., have been widely used in wireless mesh network, but because of their testing environments are a far cry from the real environment, the results obtained cannot be true reflect the actual network operation and have some negative effect upon research jobs. Therefore, it is essential to set up a real experimental platform.In response to these problems, we set up a real wireless mesh network testbed named Mesh@itec according to laboratory research needs. Researchers can easily and flexibly study or testing on the testbed for all aspects of the wireless mesh network, and the relevance and effectiveness of research findings is the strongest.This thesis focuses on the design and implementation of Mesh@itec. Firstly, based on the analysis of the domestic and foreign existing wireless mesh network testbeds, a scheme of Mesh@itec is presented. Secondly, some key technologies of Mesh@itec are studied. The implementations of NIC driver module, data forwarding module, routing module and network monitoring software are proposed which are our main work. NIC driver module implementation is the difficult point, so as network monitoring software development. Finally, some groups of functional testing and application testing are designed and completed on Mesh@itec to verify the correctness and effectiveness of Mesh@itec. The experimental results and analysis conclusions are given.The related research has some reference value for the implementation of wireless mesh network testbeds. As a good study and testing platform, Mesh@itec has some application value for the research of wireless mesh network technologies.
