Network Integration has become an obvious trend as the development of next generation networks. Meanwhile, IP Technology wins increasing recognitions as a network layer protocol covering the lower technologies. IP mobility is strongly demanded as the Internet becomes wireless and mobile, which results that the research of Mobile IPv6 gains more and more popularity.Base Mobile IPv6 protocol doesn't meet the need of next generation network. Handoff delay remains one of key problems waiting to be resolved. In this paper, a deep analysis of handoff delay is conducted and several optimization ways are compared to solve this problem. Further more, MIPv6 multi-interface handoff method, which is considered as novel handoff delay optimization method, is designed, realized and evaluated.MIPv6 multi-interface handoff method is implemented base on Linux platform, utilizing wireless extension tools and MIPL code. This method mainly includes a new module named multi-interface managing module in charge of states moniter and control of interfaces and an extension to MIPL to support multi-interface handoff events. The testing results show that MIPv6 multi-interface handoff method is an effective way to considerably decrease the MIPv6 handoff delay.
