With the development of radio technology and the appearance ofnew intemet operation, It will necessarily become the direction ofcommunication technology development for mobile terminal providingvoice and video multimedia operation. Comparing to 3G technology, theWi-Fi technology can provide more channel bandwidth and flexiblenetwork mode. It is used in the Internet radio entrance side widely. Besidesthis, IETF has issued the standard of mobile IPv6(RFC 3775) recently. This standard will do good for the Internet radio technology. But theprotocol of mobile IPv6 at present just resolve the communicationcontinuance problem between mobile node in the mobile process. For thebig latency(commonly seconds) in the link layer handoff and network layerhandoff when mobile node handoffs between different sub-networks,mobile IPv6 can not do good job for the voice and video operation that issensitive to the time, especially under the basic infrastructure mode ofWi-Fi, the link layer handoff process can not provide enough informationfor network layer, so the network layer can not know the instance of thelink layer handoff in time, and it results in more latency in the whole handoff process. In this paper we study the soft handoff mechanism in the handoffprocess, give the soft handoff arithmetic, and do the soft handoff flowanalysis. We study the different ways of the current literature, and analysisthe mobile IPv6 handoff latency mechanism under the WLANenvironment. The new way that we adopt is un-equable examination model. At the same time, we use the none estate address automatic configurationto construct the delivered address of mobile node, through the mapped andexamination mechanism between IP address and MAC address. Thesimulation results show that it reduces the mobile IPv6's latency of mobileexamination and delivered address configuration, and finally reduces thewhole latency. Different with the other ways, this way can not necessarilydo the modification to the link layer's protocol, and also do not need thesupport of link layer's spring mechanism. It can provide the low-latencyfor the mobile node in the Wi-Fi network environment. And at the sametime, the load of MN is reduced. This way uses the mobile IPv6's protocolstated ways in the delivered address construction and updating process, itkeeps the accord of the mobile IPv6.
