H.264 is the newest video standard. It is constituted by both ISO/IEC and ITU-T. H.264 can be used in different network while transferring video signal, which has good appetency with H.263 and MPEG-4. Many key technologies are applied in H.264, it provides fairly good coding quality while achieving a better coding efficiency and more simple syntax expression.On the basic of studying the theory of H.264 and its correlative video encoding algorithm, this paper analyzed the CABAC (Context-based Adaptive Binary Arithmetic Coding) of the H.264/AVC algorithm. A method to design the CABAC is putted forward. Furthermore, the data above slice is encoded in Exp-Golomb codec. So we study the theory of that and also a way to realize it is putted forward. In the end, the decoder of Exp-Golomb in this paper compared with other ones, the frequency of synthesis is twice over than before, the fastest speed arrives at 200 MHz.Firstly, this thesis introduces the significance of H.264 and its development history; Secondly, introduces the encoding and decoding theory of CABAC and its key technology, the basic theory of CABAC, and the application of Exp-Golomb code; Thirdly, the theory of CABAC is introduced in this thesis and a method of plotting out module is putted forward in this thesis; At last, the theory of Exp-Golomb and its VLSI realization are introduced, compared with another one before, the VLSI realization of CABAC encoder and decoder are both better than that.The whole design is implemented by using Verilog HDL, simulated by Cadence NC-Verilog simulator, synthesized by Synopsys Compiler to get the gate-level netlist file.
