Due to the computer network technique and multi-medium image compression technique along with the digital communication technique are developing highly, the digital video transmission by Internet is playing important role in science research and industry areas so that the digital surveillance and control system based on Internet is being applied widelier and widlier. Compared with conventional analog closed-circuit television system, the Internet video system has several advantages such as easy to arrange surveillance system as network and cover larger range. Moreover, it has strong anti-noise ability and good picture quality. In fact, the Internet digital surveillance and control system server is the key equipment in the Internet video system. Two key technologies must be solvoded in the server. One is the compressed encoding and decoding for video data and the other is that the transmission for video and audio data should be real-time. In this thesis, the solution of the Internet digital vedio surveillance and control system based on embedded system is presented. The key technologies are analyzed and the total hardware of the server of this system is developed. The overall description of video surveillance system is introduced in the first chapter. And then, the scheme of design is described briefly. In the Chapter 2, it is determined that the MPAG4 is to use in this system based on the analysises of data compression technologies and standards. The stream media technologies especially RTP/RTCP protocol and its application in the design are analyzed in the Chapter 3, and RTP/RTCP protocol is adopted as the transmission protocol of this scheme. Because the embedded technology and Linux operation system will be used in this project, they are discussed in detail in Chapter 4.In the last chapter, the hardware design and realization of the Internet digital vedio surveillance and control system server are described. The principle of this server is analyzed. Especially, three units of the hardware are discussed in detail, which include control module, picture collection and data compression module as well as interface module. The results of experiment and application are presented. At the end of the thesis, the author's main contributions are concluded. The trend of digital video surveillance and control is discussed and the problems in the developed system are also pointed.
