At present, static IP or DHCP is adopted as a method to connect to the Internet. The method of static IP cause several problems of management, because the users can modify and change the IP address themselves, some hostility users even modify the MAC address to embezzle the service of other users. On the other hand, DHCP protocol spends bandwidth in broadcast, this will cause problems of configuration and management in large switch Ethernet with many users, furthermore, the administrator can't implement the traffic scheduling, and the service of accounting is not enought ineffective. Some technology of broadband network access is adopted in campus network and broadband region, but this still can not solve the problems of network resource be embezzled and exhausted. Some departments of network management can't provide solutions for the problems untill now.In this paper, we introduce the technology of PPPoE, 802.1x and Web+Portal, and put forward a solution of broadband network access, authentication, accounting base on PPPoE protocol. In the chapter of implementation and research of broadband network access, we analyse the two phase and layer structure of PPPoE protocol in detail, and then introduce the method of how to implement kernel mode broadband network access with Linux 2.6 kernel. We mainly control the traffic at client and outgoing links. We control the traffic of client by the algorithm of Token Bucket Filter (TBF). The TBF is a simple qdisc that only passes packets arriving at a rate which is not exceeding some administratively set rate, but with the possibility to allow...
