The current work focuses on the implementation of the GPRS technology on private telecommunication network. The primary objectives contain (1) identify private networks, which can fully take advantage of GPRS technology, by means of theoretic analysis and experiences in practical cases; (2) develop a new telecommunication model by investigating the characteristics of these identified networks; and (3) validate the new model in the real world. The GSM protocol is first introduced as the base of the GPRS technology, following by comprehensive descriptions of the new or enhanced network elements in GPRS comparing to GSM. A brief analysis on the GPRS network protocol is then carried out, and a theoretic basis of the present work is hence established by a comprehensive description of the connection between mobile terminals and current wired data network.Applications which GPRS can be deployed are classified in to "1, 2, or 3" categories based on the analysis of a few GPRS network in practical. A new private telecommunication network model based on GPRS technology is introduced by summarizing their characteristics. The new model is application orientated, and some complicated network protocols are hidden from end users. It hence greatly simplifies the understanding and implementation of this technology to customers and marketing people. Each network element in this model is defined and compared with the corresponding element in the original GPRS protocol. A new methodology for the employment of different private telecommunication networks using this general model is introduced. It simplifies the network design/build process, and hence promotes the implementation of the GPRS technology. Finally, the detailed process of the implementation of this model is described in an application conducted by the author, and it hence validates this model in the real world. Suggestions and solutions are provided for the some existing problems.
