Web-Based University Information Management System

Along with the continuous development of universities' informational construction, financial investments are being applied in fundamental Facilities construction and upgrading. As a consequence, the web-based systems are developed dramatically, such as Educational Administration System, Scientific Research Administration System, Educational Human Resource Administration System, Medical System, Office Automation Systems, Apartments Management System, etc. On the other hand, vast variety of informational resources are scattered outside universities and hundreds of websites belong to the universities. Such numerous informational resources result in the current pressing problem that universities have to face with. That is, large amount of systems must be integrated together so that resources can be shared. Therefore, it is pressingly urgent to develop a University Information Management System to provide contents clustering, services searching, collaborative tools, integration and customization of application accessing.Based on the thorough investigation and research in the administration workflow of teaching, scientific research and administration in universities, campus web-based environments and the relationship of the existent University Information Management Systems, this paper puts forward an applicable design proposal for a web-based University Information Management System which can provide integrated authentication and integrated digital platform.This proposal consists of three parts: teaching module, scientific research module and administration module. Also, it includes the system infrastructure of the University Information Management System and provides details design and documentation for certain sub-systems of it. In addition, this paper analyzes and provides solutions for the critical problems, such as integrated authentication, single sign-on, system integration, data sharing and information management.The structure of this dissertation is:Chapter 1 mainly discusses the background of this research, definite University Information Management System and analyzes its present situation and prosperities.Chapter 2 introduces the objectives and significances of University Information Management System and point out its 3 main services: teaching services, scientific research services and administration services, as well as the importance and exigencies to develop such a system.Chapter 3 talks about system design of the web-based University Information Management System, including system function, system infrastructure, fundamental Facilities construction, etc.
