Disaster and calamities, with their paroxysmal and unpredictable features, great destructiveness and balefulness, undoubtedly become the eye-catching events for journalists and news media. Owing to differences in historical tradition, cultural value, journalistic concept and political climate between Chinese and American media, there are obvious contrasts and differences in the crisis reportage between Chinese and American media. By employing the research methods of framing analysis and case study, the thesis focuses on the detailed aspect in the disaster reportage, such as language usage, reporting style, and the way of illustrating the events. Through generalization and data analysis, the thesis represents a general and detailed overview of the study and at the same time analyzes the deep-rooted reasons behind these differences from the ecological point of view.
