Texture synthesis is one of the hottest areas in Computer Graphics, Computer Vision and Image Processing fields. In recent years, the technology of texture synthesis from samples has made great progress. Most existing texture synthesis algorithms take a single texture as input and generate an output texture of arbitrary size the visual appearance of which is similar and continued to that of the original image. In this thesis, we present several new opinions and algorithms for synthesizing textures.The first part of the thesis is concerned with the development of texture synthesis. The second part of the thesis concerns various texture synthesis algorithms and we also compare its quality and speed. The third part of the thesis, we bring forward a new texture synthesis algorithm which adds features of texture to the existing algorithm, and thus improve the quality of synthesis. The algorithm uses the consistency of texture patch to improve its synthesis speed and also gets a good result by comparing the discrete structural information. In the fourth part of this thesis, we present a constrained multi-sample texture synthesis algorithm. The algorithm is based on texture patch matching and context region. The synthesis process uses target image and image pyramid to produce texture that we wanted. The algorithm is well-suited for a wide class of textures. In the last part of the thesis, we summarize our work and discuss potential future work.All these methods have great potential in many applications, especially in the creation of large-scale scene, realistic images generating, computer animation, virtual reality and so on.
