With the extensive application of multimedia technology, compression coding technology for video is deeply developed. H.264 is a new generation video compression coding standard and is a hotspot in the current image communication field, which was established by Joint Video Team(JVT).JVT is made up of ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group(VCEG) and ISO/IEC Motion Picture Experts Group(MEPG). H.264 standard has adopted a series of algorithms which were improved from the previous versions. It aims at offering very good video quality and realizing higher coding efficiency and succinct expression form.As to high-efficient video communication, we must deal with the error and loss of data in the communication network efficiently and make quality control to video transmission, mainly including error control and congestion control. Based on the robustness of video transmission, the research is carried on in this paper.At the beginning, the background and the development course of video compression coding standard are reviewed and H.264 standard is introduced hereby in this paper. Moreover, the new technologies of this standard differing from the previous versions are analyzed in detail; Secondly, the basic methods of error control in the video transmission are summed up.
