| In the new century, the human society has entered into the information age. The research and development of wireless communication and personal communication system of a new generation has become a new focus. Because advanced wireless communication is highly demanded on the market, the third generation communication system (3G) will become a key communication technology, and has already become the international standard.More store volume and more flexible high-speed and multi-speed data transmission capacity are demanded in 3G technology. Except for voice and data transmissions, high quality active image at 2Mbit/s can also be transmitted. As a result, the goal of"anybody communicates with whomever whenever and wherever"has been fulfilled. Because high speed data transmission service is introduced in 3G system for the first time, effective coding channel techniques have become an important technique.The history of channel coding and wireless communication is reviewed in this paper. The three mainstream technologies-WCDMA,CDMA2000 and TD-SCDMA are briefly analyzed. Being Forward Error Correction Code, convolutional code has been widely applied in GSM and N-CDMA. Convolutional code is still the channel coding in low speed data transmission services in 3G. Turbo codes are a new form of error correction technique, and their error bit rate is relatively low when the SNR is as low as near the Shannon limit.Convolutional code is the basic component of Turbo code. The basic principles and decoding algorithms of convolutional code are studid in detail. The basic principles and interleaving decoding are analyzed.The effects of various parameters on the correction capacity of Turbo codes are analyzed by computer simulation, and the conclusion is given.Because the correction capacity of Turbo codes is fairly good, they have become the channel coding technique of high speed data transmission in 3G protocol.
