In today's fast-paced information-driven society, the need for accurate, timely, and cost-effective data acquisition is very critical. Optical mark reader (OMR) system can be used to achieve these aspects. OMR has been popularized in high schools and universities in big cities. At the same time, China is a country which has a large population and a big portion of underdeveloped regions, so the field involving the underdeveloped regions, high to grade schools, medium to small organizations as well as individuals, is potential and unexploited. The main reason is that on the market, OMR is expensive, complexity in use, card required high quality, and so on. Aimed at these problems, for making information technology popularization into that mentioned field, we have researched a set of photoelectric reading system based on USB interface, which is cheaper, Plug and Play, card requiring lower quality, multifunctional.This system is composed of hardware section and software section. The major work of hardware section is to design and research OMR, including card transmission, data acquisition and communication.
