In 2001, The EU Information Society Technologies Advisory Group proposed the concept of Ambient Intelligence (AmI in abbreviation) and defined it as"the convergence of ubiquitous computing, ubiquitous communication, and interfaces adapting to the user". The objective of AmI is to broaden the interaction between human beings and digital information technology through the usage of ubiquitous computing devices. In the broad research field of AmI, based on the project "AmI and Embedded System" of Embedded Software and System Institute, the thesis proposed the concept of "Ambient Services Based on PDA", defined the scenario and the 4 key-services - Information Service, Media Service, Application Service and Surveillance Service. To design and realize the scenario, analyzed the software/hardware architecture of the system, researched and compared between popular service location protocols, after that designed a simple service location protocol suitable for Ambient Services System - "AmISLP", implemented the core components of the protocol - User Agent and Service Agent. For different Services, different interaction protocols are designed based on XML or byte-code. The detailed requirements and the software designation of 4 key-services are discussed and analyzed by the mean of Object Oriented Software Engineering then prototype of the system is implemented and the UI on PDA is presented.
