The shock absorber is the chief component part, which affects the quality of the vehicle suspension system, and it plays an important part in the compromise riding comfort and maneuvering stability. Idle shock absorber should be able to adaptively retune to the changes of road input, vehicle velocity and payload to meet different driving conditions. But the shock absorber used in the traditional passive suspension system can not meet above requirements. Compared with the passive car suspension, the semi-active car suspension system with the intelligent MR damper can control the damping force automatically with the computer control and then enhance the ride comfort and handling stability of the car effectively. This article establishes a MR damper model with a semi-active suspension, applying fuzzy logic control strategy, using MATLAB/SIMULINK as a simulation tool to simulate this control system. Based on the simulation results, designs and develops a fuzzy-controlled semi-active suspension system in which DSP plays the main role. The simulation results demonstrate that the mathematical model and control methods presented by this paper are accurate and reliable. The performances of semi-active suspension excel that of passive suspension in the aspect of ride comfort and handling stability. The results show good effect of semi-active car suspension with MR damper and verify feasibility and advantage of MR damper in car suspension control and in the mean time provide a good future for the development of car absorption of vibration technology.
