The intelligent optical networks (ION) can establish dynamic trafic connections automatically and configure network resources effectively. And also multiple schmes for rapid restoration are provided in ION. All these are realized due to many intelligent control mechanisms, such as signaling, routing and survivability technologies. Survivability and routing are two vital technologies which greatly impact the performance of optical networks. With the support of the National Nature Science Fund of China and the 863 Program of China, the author has investigated several key technologies of routing and survivability problem of ION, which include routing and wavelength assignment problem (RWA) in Intelligence Optical Network (ION), routing and resource allocation problem of Multi-granularity optical networks.Software simulation is a good option to perform an optical network research, by which the user can configure a network quickly and easily. And the parameters can be altered to generate a new scheme, the compare between them give suggestion for the network plan and design. In this paper, we use the Unified Modeling Language (UML) to designe and develope the optical networks simulation software. In the dissertation, the main innovative researches are listed as follow:1. The routing and wavelength assignment problem (RWA) in Intelligence Optical Network (ION) is analyzed in this dissertation. Some key technologies of routing problem are researched in detailed, which include the compare of the RWA algorithms, relation between controlling signal in ION and RWA problem. Then, the survivability technologies of ION are also analyzed, which include combined survivability mechanism in ASON.2. We conducted research on Multi-granularity optical networks. We proposed a novel dynamic traffic grooming algorithm named DMW(Dynamic Minimum Weight, DMW) to resolve the dynamic traffic grooming problem in Multi-granularity optical networks. After that, a group of novel static traffic grooming algorithms named MCWF (Maximum Correlation Weight First, MCWF) and Bi-directional Tunnel Growth (BTG) was proposed Correspondingly. Based the algorithms we proposed, we did an economic analyse on Multi-granularity optical networks.3. We studyed the main technology of software modeling process and investigate the object-oriented software engineering. Then we use the Unified Modeling Language (UML) to modeling the optical networks simulation software and developed it by Visual C++.
