Research And Partial Implementation Of Multicast Monitoring And Management System For Next-Generation Internet

Multicast is one kind of IP technologies that can transmit data stream from one point to multiple points effectively. It has a broad range of applications and has drawn much attention of the researchers in the world. IPv6 is the core protocol in the Next-Generation Internet (NGI), and it has successfully resolved the shortage of address space in IPv4 protocol and has effectively improved performance of Multicast and Quality of Services (QoS). It is impossible to provide high quality service of multicast without supporting from monitoring and management technology. However, one of the biggest challenges to multicast is the lack of effective mechanism in multicast monitoring and management. In view of the background, the author makes an in-depth study on the multicast monitoring and management for the Next-Generation Internet in this thesis.First of all, the theories of IPv6 multicast technology are analyzed with much consideration of the multicast group management protocol and multicast routing protocol. Then, the directions of multicast are introduced with SSM/PIM-SSM protocol as a priority. After analyzing technologies of network measurement and network management, the author compares and analyzes all kinds of multicast monitoring and management systems or tools of the last decade, which have been traced closely. The results indicate that most of the systems and tools are used to debug multicast network and they are only useful for multicast researchers.
