Web services technology, as the successor of distributed objects technology and component technology in software engineering domain, is widely used in many kinds of occasions because of its coarse-granularity and inter-operation feature. However, the search engine technology based on keywords matching can not be utilized effetely on Web services description search because that semantic matching is required. The registry mechanism used in Web services description discovery also embarrass service discovery process because Web services can not registry complete description information due to some intrinsic feature.The structure of Web services description information is analyzed in an abstract level, and divided into active part and passive part. Active part is the part that gives the relatively abstract information due to constrains of the amount of data and dynamic feature. This type of information can be published by service provider tlirough registry mechanism. Active description can not provide useful information to distinguish concrete services because Web services providing similar services can use the same active description. Passive part is the internal data presentation of Web services. The internal data is always in huge amount and changes continuously. To satisfy the process of passive part, a mixed architecture with registry and index mechanism is developed. The concept of Web Service Abstraction and some algorithms are discussed, and the concrete service discovery process is proved to be improved.
