The medium and small manufacture enterprise is playing an important role in our country's economical development which cannot be substituted. The intellectualized CAPP system formerly developed concentrated mostly on the automation of the generation of part process. The more flexible, practicable and intellectualized CAPP system is needed to adapt the dynamics and variety of the medium and small manufacture enterprise. Developing the human-computer cooperation CAPP knowledge-based system to meet the requirement of the enterprise is proposed in this paper. Essential technology is studied as following:Firstly, according to the design idea of "moderate automation" the intelligence of human and computer is united in the CAPP system utilizing the technology of process planning tasks disassembling, the distributing and cooperation of tasks and the interface between human and computer. The system structure is defined.Secondly, knowledge engineering is introduced in the CAPP system and the characteristic and function of process knowledge is analyzed. Model the process knowledge of CAPP system utilizing the combination of the knowledge representation method of object-oriented and procedure rule. The knowledge database is set up based on the relations database. At the same time Visual Basic and SQL are used to design the reasoning mechanism of CAPP based on DBMS.Thirdly, the theory on the mechanical machining process planning is studied and then the iterative model of process planning is proposed.Fourthly, the Unified Modeling Language is utilized to divide the function module for XJCAPPP system using Rational Rose 2000. Utilizing the use case diagram, sequence diagram and class diagram express the models of system and their interaction, so the corresponding relationship is to be set up between model and the executive object, and is to the program language. To design the reasonable data construction based on the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and to establish the database table using the Transact-SQL language. At last, the specific function is realized by programming Visual Basic code; with the system design is completed.
