Digital Signal Processor is a new type ,single chip microcomputer with special structure,and is special suitable for digital filtering , high-fidelity audio,graphics ,and phonetic processing ,and meets the requirement of accuracy and real-time processing with its powerful processing capability and flexibility,as a result,it makes a rapid progress.In contrast,the research of DSP design in China is merely in the beginning.In the paper,the main purpose is research of 16bit High-Speed DSP,and has accomplished research and design of the peripheral module in the DSPs,and focuses on research of Enhanced Synchronous Serial Port(ESSP).The main work and innovations of the paper are as the follows:1. The characteristic of peripheral circuits was discussed in it from 16bit fixed DSP, and then expounds research project in the subject.2. Design and simulation of ESSP was discussed. Dominating circuits of ESSP are optimized and transmit or receice circuit of high performance is designed after researching into the structure of existed serial port . Result of simulation shows : ESSP can transmit or receive data with high speed and reliability.3. In order to steadily sample synchronous signals and achieve synchronization , a new design technique was put forward: parallel synchronous technology,which realizes data conversion from serial to parallel,and decrease the rate of data transmission,therefore effectively enhance performances of the circuits.4. The working modes of ESSP was detailedly analyzed ,and explores its design and implementation.In the meantime,all functional modules is simulated and verified by Verilog-XL.Design methods that add two four-word-deep FIFO buffers in ESSP was presented to greatly increase speed of receice and transmit data ,and reduce the amount of CPU overhead and the number of transmit or receive interrupts,and increase the efficiency of serial port transmission.The design technique is of great pratical value and significance for reference and application.
