With the development of the computer technology, especially with the advance of the revolution speed, image processing was used more and more widely in many areas of engineering technology. Core scanner was used to collect the image information on the pot mainly with the aim of providing the basic data for the drilling and probing of the oil or gas field. Core scanner was made up of machine frame, image-gathering system and motion control system. The motion control system of conventional core scanner included the liner motion control of the image-gathering device (area image sensor and line image sensor) and the swing- around motion control of the core. The motion control system of conventional core scanner was composed of computer, interface, numerical control system, retarded device and ball screw. The transmission chain was long, meanwhile the motion control was very complicated, and so the scanner had the large volume, heavy weight and low moving precision. As a result, the scanner was not convenient to handle easy.Elaborating the advantage in the grid location check of the portable scanner with the basic of grid orientation, the principle of"movement by hand mainly, check by computer passive"was used. And some hardware, including the numerical control system, retarded device and ball screw, were cancelled. This method not only made the image guarantee the quality and quantity, but also made the scanner decrease the weight, reduce the cost substantially and became portable.
