The virtual laboratory system based on Desktop VR is a kind of Application of VR and also belongs to E-learning Application. One of the bottle-neck of development and application is the reusing and representation of virtual experimental resources. The virtual experimental resource is one kind of educational resource and the base of virtual laboratory system, its representation and functional definition must abide CELTS(Chinese E-learning Technology Standards, CELTS). At the same time it has the different characteristics comparied with theoretical learning resource. So we are obliged to extend the related specification in order to reflect its own characteristics of virtual experimental resource.In the thesis, the characteristics, the hierarchy and the function of VLS is analysed and definited. The relation of mapping and hierarchy between the elements of educational resource Metadata is analyzed. Based on application, virtual experimental resource is classified into virtual instrument, virtual experiment and virtual course, three granularities, corresponding with the three specification of learning object metadata(CELTS-3), course sequencing (CELTS-8)and contents package (CELTS-9). Also, the structure model and the locating model are definited for Virtual instrument.The thesis points out that the information models of virtual instruments reflects the all functions of real instruments by exposing their ports and not describing implementing methods of interior function. The representation criteria of information models of virtual instruments (metadata) include the following contents: Quoting and extending the CELTS' specification by obligating the value space of core elements in the information models of learning object metadata, reflects the property of education resource of virtual instruments.
